The eruption, which took place on Wednesday, was one of the strongest in recent years, with Semeru expelling massive clouds of ash and sending lava and rock fragments up to 13 kilometers away. The alert level was maintained at maximum, and recent images show a dense cloud of ash rising from the crater. Semeru, with a height of 3,676 meters, is one of about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, a country known for its intense seismic activity. The last major eruption occurred in December 2021, causing the death of 51 people and covering nearby villages with ash.
