In the area of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf of Oman, nearly half of the 2,000 ships have navigated blind due to GPS signal jamming, according to Bfmtv.com. Since the beginning of the war in Iran, traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has decreased by 70%, and many ships have been diverted or have stagnated in the Gulf of Oman.

The majority of commercial ships use the original civil GPS signal, L1 C/A, which is outdated. GPS jamming is done through radio transmitters that create a "noise wall," and more advanced techniques, such as spoofing, can manipulate the automatic identification system of ships. In the absence of GPS, crews are forced to resort to traditional navigation methods, making navigation risky. GPS signal jamming is used by both sides in the conflict, affecting maritime and aerial activities in the area.
