Maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed down, according to data published on Wednesday, as most ship owners have avoided this strategic route due to uncertainties regarding its reopening after the blockade during the Iran war.

On Tuesday, only six ships crossed the strait, down from nine the day before and below the daily average of 11 ships. Donald Trump stated that there are no discussions with Iran and insisted that the strait is open, thus contradicting Iranian claims. Before the conflict, one-fifth of the world's volume of oil and liquefied natural gas passed through Hormuz. Security concerns have led Chinese shipping giants to avoid the strait.

Trump also published a map on his Truth Social network, describing Hormuz as a "new American territory," reiterating a previous idea. This statement was initially made last week, and the president suggested it would be a "very good idea."
