Almost 400 ships with 6,000 sailors are blocked in the Gulf, six months after the start of the war in Iran.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) reported that nearly 400 ships, with approximately 6,000 sailors on board, are still stranded in the Gulf, halfway through the year after the outbreak of the conflict in Iran. The Secretary-General of the IMO, Arsenio Dominguez, emphasized that although some crews have managed to leave, the majority have been unable to exit the area safely. Since the beginning of the war, 70 attacks against international ships in the Gulf have been documented, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in 19 deceased sailors. The deterioration of maritime security severely affects innocent sailors.

In the context of tensions between the US and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point of the dispute, with American forces imposing port blockades to reduce Tehran's funding sources. Although President Trump stated that the strait is completely controlled by the US, analysts contest this claim, highlighting that navigation under security conditions remains problematic.
