Former U.S. President Barack Obama returned to the campaign trail on Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio, where he endorsed Democratic candidates in the November 3 midterm elections and harshly criticized his successor, Donald Trump. Obama urged voters to vote for change, accusing the Republican administration of chaos, corruption and incompetence.
The Democrat blamed the rising cost of living on the current administration’s decisions and argued that Trump had started an “unnecessary war.” Obama urged attendees to vote as soon as possible, as early voting is already open in Ohio.
In the state, former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is seeking to return to office against Republican Jon Husted, while the governor’s race pits Democrat Amy Acton against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Polls indicate a narrow advantage for Democrats.
Obama was scheduled to travel to Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday to support Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. Donald Trump responded on Truth Social, describing Obama as an “extremely incompetent” president and criticizing the nuclear deal reached with Iran in 2015.
