Nirmal Purja, known for climbing the fourteen peaks of 8,000 meters, died during an expedition on Broad Peak, in Pakistan. Elite Exped, his company, announced that Purja and other team members did not survive the avalanche that occurred on Thursday.

Among the deceased are also his trusted partners, Pur Bahadur Gurung and Nima Sherpa. The Prime Minister of Nepal, Balendra Shah, expressed the national sorrow caused by the death of the ten climbers. Purja, a renowned mountaineer, set impressive records, including climbing all 8,000-meter peaks in just six months. The avalanche interrupted contact with his expedition, and rescue teams began operations under difficult conditions. Broad Peak, the 12th highest peak in the world, is known for its technical challenges.
