New Zealand has announced that it will not join the 'Council for Peace' proposed by American President Donald Trump, thus aligning itself with other countries that have declined the invitation. Foreign Minister Winston Peters stated that New Zealand does not believe it could make a significant contribution to the Council's activities, especially in the context of the situation in Gaza, where other states in the region have already committed. Peters also emphasized the country's commitment to the United Nations, mentioning that the Council's activities should be in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The 'Council for Peace', recently launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, has global ambitions to resolve conflicts, which has sparked criticism and concerns that it could rival the role of the UN.
