Before the NATO summit on July 7-8 in Ankara, allies intend to give the Supreme Allied Commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, more freedom to respond to aerial threats, including swarms of drones that have penetrated into Poland and Romania. After months of negotiations, approval is expected for a proposal that would allow Grynkewich to manage resources more effectively and establish alert levels without formal approval. This initiative aims to integrate missile defense and air defense systems with air policing missions, thereby improving the alliance's response to frequent drone incursions. Allies have emphasized that current national restrictions complicate the speed of response to threats, and the urgency of discussions has increased following Iranian ballistic missile attacks. Grynkewich presented his proposals to NATO ambassadors, highlighting the need for a united approach in the face of aerial challenges.
