Foreign ministers from Muslim countries met on Monday in Istanbul, urging Israel and Hamas to respect the fragile ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which came into effect on October 10. Hakan Fidan, the Turkish foreign minister, stated that a two-state solution is essential for lasting peace, which would involve the coexistence of Israel and an independent Palestinian state.
Discussions focused on strengthening the truce and on U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan, which includes the disarmament of Hamas and the formation of an international force to stabilize security in the Palestinian territories. Fidan mentioned that Hamas is willing to transfer control of Gaza, but a mandate from the UN Security Council is necessary for the deployment of the international force.
