The company Meta announced that it has removed a Facebook page used to signal the locations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Chicago, at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the social network deleted this large group, which targeted ICE officers, to comply with policies against coordinating harmful actions. This measure aligns with the actions of other tech companies, such as Apple and Google, which have restricted apps that allowed reporting the presence of ICE agents.
Bondi argued that such initiatives endanger the lives of immigration officers, while users claim that their actions are protected by the First Amendment and aim to protect themselves in the context of stricter deportation policies under the Trump administration.
