U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected reports that he intends to leave President Donald Trump’s administration, stating that his plan is to remain in office until the end of the current presidential term.
“It has always been my plan to work for President Trump until the end of his term,” Rubio told the New York Times. Asked about reports of a possible resignation, he said he did not know where the information came from.
The statements were made after Bloomberg reported that Rubio had allegedly considered the possibility of leaving the administration following the Republicans’ defeat in the November 3 midterm elections. According to the agency, he had allegedly discussed the matter with White House officials, who reportedly urged him to remain in office.
The State Department called the reports “completely fabricated,” while a U.S. official also rejected reports of a possible Rubio candidacy in the 2028 presidential election. Rubio, who is also national security adviser, refuses to discuss his political plans and previously stated that he would support Vice President J.D. Vance if he runs.
