A man from South Korea, accused of stealing two cookies from the company refrigerator where he worked, was acquitted after nearly two years of trials. In 2024, he served himself a cream-filled cookie and a Choco Pie, with a total value of 1,050 won (62 cents). The company filed a complaint, arguing that only employees were authorized to open the refrigerator. Although the prosecution considered the crime minor, the man requested a full trial, initially being found guilty and fined 50,000 won.
After an appeal, the court decided that the workers had permission to consume snacks and concluded that there was no intent to steal. The case sparked outrage, being compared to the story of Jean Valjean from "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo.
