The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stated that the recent sanctions imposed by the U.S. contradict Washington's claims about the desire to improve relations with Moscow. In an interview, Lavrov emphasized that the existing sanctions, including the recent ones against Lukoil and Rosneft, continue to affect bilateral relations. He mentioned that following the meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump, Russia supported U.S. proposals for resolving the Ukrainian crisis but was met with new sanctions.
Lavrov also criticized U.S. decisions regarding Cuba, stating that they reflect a hostile policy towards Russia. His statements come in the context of the expiration of the New START treaty, the last nuclear disarmament agreement between Russia and the U.S., without an official American response to the proposal for its extension.
