Kazakhstan is preparing to become the first country in Central Asia to implement electric air taxis with vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL).
The Anadolu Agency reported that the Prosperity eVTOL aircraft, developed by AutoFlight from China, was showcased during a demonstration flight in the capital Astana. This small aircraft can carry a pilot and five passengers, with a maximum speed of 200 km/h and a range of approximately 200 km on a single charge.
The air taxi service will be launched in Alatau, a city built on the concept of a digital city, and the first commercial flights are planned for the end of 2028 or the beginning of 2029, connecting Alatau with Almaty and tourist destinations in the region. Air taxis are still in an early stage globally, being adopted by few countries, including the USA, China, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and some European countries.
