Sanae Takaichi, the first female head of government in Japan, accused China of intending to change the status quo in the East China Sea and the South China Sea through force or coercion. In front of parliament, Takaichi emphasized that Japan is facing a complex security environment, mentioning not only China but also Russia and North Korea. Although she expressed concerns about Chinese military activities, Takaichi reaffirmed Japan's commitment to promoting constructive relations with Beijing, highlighting the importance of dialogue.

Additionally, Takaichi announced the intention to revise Japan's defense policies, considering the changes in the global security environment. She mentioned the need to accelerate military spending to reach 2% of GDP sooner than the established deadline. The Japanese prime minister also suggested a possible relaxation of the arms export embargo to strengthen Japan's and its allies' defense capabilities.
