Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was arrested on Saturday after being sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempted coup. His lawyer, Celso Vilardi, confirmed the arrest, stating that he does not know the exact reasons. The federal police executed a preventive arrest warrant in accordance with a decision by the Supreme Court. Bolsonaro, at the age of 70, had been under house arrest since August and faced the risk of being incarcerated. In September, he was found guilty of leading a "criminal organization" that attempted to remain in power after his electoral defeat against Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The Supreme Court recently rejected Bolsonaro's appeal, and his defense requested that he serve his sentence at home due to health issues.
