The Supreme Court authorized Jair Bolsonaro to temporarily serve his prison sentence at home.

A judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil authorized on Tuesday the house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro, 71 years old, for humanitarian reasons, after he was hospitalized for bacterial bronchopneumonia. Judge Alexandre de Moraes set an initial period of 90 days, which can be extended based on medical evaluations. Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempted coup, is serving his sentence since January in the Papuda prison complex in Brasilia.

His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, reacted positively to the judge's decision. The former president was hospitalized on March 13, and the respiratory infection is related to the aftermath of a knife attack he suffered in 2018. This has led to multiple surgeries and bouts of hiccups, complicating his health condition.
