Israel and Lebanon reached an agreement on Wednesday regarding the implementation of a ceasefire, following two days of negotiations in Washington, in the context of Israeli attacks that resulted in the deaths of nine people in Lebanon.
The agreement stipulates a ceasefire by Hezbollah and the evacuation of members of this group from the southern area of the Litani River. It was also agreed to create "pilot zones" where the Lebanese army will have exclusive control. The negotiations were conducted under the auspices of the United States, and the parties agreed to continue discussions for a comprehensive agreement in the week of June 22.
Recent Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of 3,516 people in Lebanon and the displacement of over a million, while Israel has lost 26 soldiers. The Iranian Foreign Minister warned that any attack on Beirut could reignite large-scale conflict in the Middle East.
