The Indonesian government, through Communications Minister Meutya Hafid, has announced its intention to ban online shopping platforms for minors under 16 years old, following numerous scams involving children. This measure comes after a similar ban was imposed in March on social media, affecting approximately 70 million Indonesian children from accessing platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook.

Hafid stated that the ban could be extended to include all digital platforms, including online sales sites. This initiative aligns with global trends, especially in Australia, which have implemented age restrictions to protect young people from harmful content and the negative effects of addiction to digital platforms.
