The Pentagon's Inspector General has completed an investigation regarding the use of the Signal messaging application by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in the context of discussions about an attack in Yemen. Although Hegseth did not violate classification rules, the report highlights the risks he created by exposing sensitive military information, endangering U.S. troops and missions.
It was also found that the Pentagon does not have a secure government messaging platform, forcing officials to use insecure commercial applications. The investigation was opened after Hegseth was involved in an incident related to an attack in the Caribbean, and the use of the application was discovered accidentally. Although Hegseth refused to participate in interviews, the Pentagon's spokesperson stated that the report completely exonerates him. Senators had mixed reactions to the report's conclusions, with some considering it unimportant.
