The airport in Hanover, located in northern Germany, was closed due to the presence of unidentified drones, according to a spokesperson for the airport. The closure occurred on Friday evening at 21:47 and lasted until Saturday at 12:16, resulting in the rerouting of seven flights to other cities such as Paderborn, Bremen, and Frankfurt. Additionally, two connecting flights to Frankfurt and Paris were canceled for security reasons.
The first sighting of a drone was reported at an altitude of 80 meters, and subsequently, several drones were observed near the airport. This is not the first time that Hanover airport has been affected by drones, a similar incident occurred in November. The presence of drones has caused disruptions at several airports in Germany, and Russia is suspected of these incidents, although there is no concrete evidence. In 2023, over 1,000 reports of suspicious drone flights have been made in Germany, particularly affecting military targets and essential infrastructure.
