A violent incident took place in Kiev, where agents of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense (GUR) confronted members of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The exchange of gunfire was triggered by the alleged disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, who was kidnapped on August 23. The incident occurred in front of the house of the alleged kidnapped soldier.
According to sources, three members of the GUR were injured during the confrontation. Video recordings posted on Ukrainian Telegram channels capture the sound of gunfire and medical intervention for an injured person. Kaplunov's lawyer, Taras Vorovski, stated that SBU agents attempted to plant incriminating evidence at his client's home. The SBU issued a statement claiming that it thwarted a terrorist attack by Russian intelligence services against the nationalist leader, who arrived in Ukraine on August 24.
