A Russian attack drone struck the main building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in central Kyiv on Friday, on Volodymyrska Street, opposite Saint Sophia’s Cathedral, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the drone directly targeted the SBU chief’s office. The service’s acting director, Oleksandr Poklad, was informed of the attack, but according to a source cited by AFP, he was not in his office when the strike occurred.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that at least seven people were injured. A dense black smoke rose at the site of the attack, and AFP journalists reported that several ambulances had been sent to the area.

Zelenskyy said he had ordered preparations for an “appropriate and tangible response” against Russia, which Ukraine intends to carry out once preparations are complete.
