A Russian drone struck the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), located on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv’s historic center. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the drone directly targeted the head of the institution’s office. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, while journalists observed ambulances in the area.
Zelenskyy said he had spoken with SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad and that everyone affected would receive the necessary assistance. In the message posted on X, the Ukrainian president did not provide information about any possible casualties or the extent of the damage.
The attack took place near Saint Sophia Cathedral and comes amid tensions between the SBU and Ukraine’s military intelligence service, the HUR.
Zelenskyy asked Poklad to prepare an “appropriate and concrete response” against Russia that would reflect the attack. He said the Ukrainian army would support this response as soon as the necessary conditions were met.
