Greece has announced that it will waive the application of the Entry/Exit system for British citizens, following issues encountered in Italy. From April 10, this system was supposed to be implemented for non-EU citizens, including the British, who would have had to register their fingerprints and facial image when crossing borders.

The Greek authorities, aware of the impact of tourism on the economy, decided to exempt the British from this procedure to avoid delays and chaos at airports. The director of the Greek National Tourism Organization in the UK, Eleni Skarveli, stated that this measure will facilitate a faster arrival experience.

The previous procedure, which involved a visual check of the passport and the application of a stamp, takes significantly less time than the Entry/Exit system. Greece's decision to deviate from EU rules is motivated by the desire to maintain a steady flow of British tourists, essential for its economy. No deadline has been set for this exemption, and other Schengen countries may follow Greece's example.
