Germany has announced that it will not support the increase in the EU budget proposed by the European Commission for the period 2028-2034, set at €2 trillion. Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said such an increase is unacceptable in view of member states' efforts to strengthen their national budgets. Germany is also opposed to the additional corporate tax proposed by the commission, which includes a levy on big companies with turnovers of more than €100m. The budget targets, among other things, the reconstruction of Ukraine and a review of agricultural subsidies.
