Germany and Syria are collaborating to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees from Germany, announced German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the visit of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to Berlin. The two leaders discussed establishing a "circular migration model" that would allow Syrians to contribute to the reconstruction of their country without giving up the stability of their lives built in Germany.

Merz emphasized that the reconstruction of Syria, affected by the civil war, is essential for prosperity, and German aid will be linked to the return of refugees. Germany will finance up to 200 million euros for infrastructure projects, including water supply and the reconstruction of hospitals. Merz highlighted the importance of respecting human rights and establishing the rule of law in Syria to ensure a reliable framework for citizens and the economy.
