Georgia becomes the first U.S. state to require police officers to take an election law course to get state certification.

The new requirement in police officer training will prevent misinterpretations of the law on Election Day, said Chris Harvey, deputy executive director of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. The course emphasizes conflict de-escalation and ways police officers should not portray their presence as threatening.
