Freedom House reported that the level of freedom in the United States has reached the lowest level in history, with a score of 81 out of 100, marking a significant decline in the context of an authoritarian drift under Donald Trump's leadership. Although the U.S. maintains its status as a "free" country, this score places it at the same level as South Africa and below European allies such as South Korea. The organization emphasizes that the regression is due to legislative dysfunction, executive dominance, and pressures on freedom of expression. The three-point decline is significant, being recorded only by Bulgaria among the "free" countries. Globally, only 21% of the population lives in countries considered "free," and the trend of erosion of freedom continues. On a positive note, Bolivia, Malawi, and Fiji have advanced in the rankings, while Finland remains the only country with a perfect score of 100.
