The French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu initiated a procedure on Wednesday to suspend the Shein platform, following controversies related to its products. The French Ministry of Economy announced that the suspension will last until Shein proves that all its products comply with current legislation. It is unclear whether the suspension applies to Shein's digital operations, the physical store opened on Wednesday, or both. A report from the French consumer protection authority stated that "child-like sex dolls" were being sold on the Shein website.
Additionally, conservative MP Antoine Vermorel Marques filed a legal complaint, stating that he identified weapons being sold on the platform. The Ministers of Economy and Small Enterprises will present an initial report within the next 48 hours. In response, Donald Tang, the executive chairman of Shein, stated that the company has created an "integrity panel" to review the products sold and has launched an internal investigation.
