France has adopted strict measures to prevent the spread of hantavirus after a woman repatriated from the MV Hondius tested positive. The decree, issued on Monday, provides for isolation of up to 42 days for passengers and those who have had contact with them. The woman, a French citizen, began to feel unwell during the repatriation flight after the ship docked in Tenerife. The other four passengers are now in isolation in Paris and will be tested again. Additionally, an American citizen has tested positive, and another is showing symptoms. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen thanked the authorities for the rapid evacuation of the passengers. The WHO has confirmed that the subtype of hantavirus involved is transmitted from person to person, but it has tried to calm fears related to a risk similar to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three people on the ship have died from the virus.
