The eruption of Mount Etna has caused delays, cancellations, and rerouting of flights to and from Sicily, severely affecting air traffic at Catania airport.

Volcanic ash, which poses a major risk to aircraft, has led to the suspension of landings until Monday at 5:00 PM local time. Passengers with tickets to Catania are facing delays and itinerary changes, being forced to consider alternative airports such as Palermo.

This complicated situation arises in the middle of the tourist season, when Sicily is a popular destination.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy is monitoring Etna's activity, which remains high, with lava flows and ash emissions. Currently, authorities have issued a red alert code, and air traffic will continue to be affected depending on the evolution of the eruption.
