Farah Pahlavi, the former empress of Iran, has issued a call to the security forces of the regime in Tehran, urging them to listen to the "cries of anger" of the population and to join the protesters who have been contesting the regime for over two weeks. Her appeal comes after her son, Reza Pahlavi, supported the demonstrators in the USA. Farah emphasized that the survival of a government does not justify bloodshed and encouraged Iranians to remain strong, promising that freedom will triumph.
At the same time, the UN condemned the brutal repression in Iran, reporting over 600 deaths following the protests. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called for an end to the violence against peaceful protesters and the restoration of internet access. The NGO Iran Human Rights confirmed 648 deaths and approximately 10,000 arrests, but fears that the actual number of victims could be much higher. Iranian authorities have restricted communications, complicating the collection of information about the situation in the country.
