Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday called on American citizens to “wake up” and take control of the country from what it called the “corrupt politicians” in Washington. The appeal was made in an open letter addressed to the American people, five weeks before the midterm elections and after seven months of conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran.

In the document, drafted in PDF format and published online, the IRGC accuses President Donald Trump of misleading Americans about the course of the war, Iran’s nuclear program and control of the Strait of Hormuz. The Revolutionary Guard claims that the United States has failed to achieve its stated objectives and declares Iran the victor in the conflict.

The letter attempts to distinguish between the U.S. government and the people of the United States. The IRGC says that Iranians and Americans are, in different ways, victims of corrupt politicians and argues that they share the same suffering. The document also explains the slogan “Death to America,” stating that it is directed at the U.S. political establishment, not its citizens.

This is not the first time Tehran has attempted to communicate messages directly to the American public. Since the beginning of the conflict, media outlets and networks associated with Iran have used artificial intelligence to produce English-language materials intended to promote Iran’s version of the war.
