Former military lawyer David McBride has been jailed for almost six years in Canberra, Australia, for leaking more than 200 classified military documents.

The sentence came on Tuesday after McBride admitted to sharing with journalists documents revealing alleged Australian war crimes in Afghanistan. The 60-year-old was charged with theft and sentenced to five years and six months in prison. His defenders said they plan to appeal against the sentence.
