Ryanair disputes the injured passenger’s claim on a Greece-Germany flight. The company maintains that he was pulled toward the window, but did not go through it

Ryanair disputes the claim made by a Serbian passenger who says he was sucked through a broken aircraft window during flight FR1879 from Greece to Germany on July 10, 2026. The company says the man was pulled toward the window but did not end up outside the aircraft.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said the passenger was “certainly pulled toward the window,” but “did not go out through the window.” His lawyer claims that, after the aircraft suddenly depressurized, the head and right arm of 61-year-old Ljubisa Karović were sucked through the broken window.

The man’s wife and two other passengers allegedly held him by the legs until the aircraft made an emergency landing. Karović was taken to hospital with serious injuries, burns and injuries to his right hand. His wife said the seat belt saved his life.

The incident is being investigated by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, together with Boeing, GE and Ryanair. According to the NTSB’s preliminary findings, an engine fan blade broke shortly after takeoff. Several passengers reported hearing an explosion. The aircraft was operated by Malta Air, a Ryanair subsidiary, and an ultrasonic inspection carried out in May had not identified any problems.
