The European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, has launched a new strategy to combat drug trafficking, focused on expanding international cooperation and destroying production centers. The strategy aims to prevent the recruitment of young people into criminal networks and combat violence associated with drugs.

The Frontex agency will benefit from advanced technologies, such as high-resolution satellites and drones, to monitor drug trafficking on various routes. In the last decade, drug seizures in the EU have increased significantly, with 419 tons of cocaine seized in 2023, six times more than in the previous period.

Europe is also facing alarming domestic production, with over 500 laboratories destroyed annually. Brunner emphasized the need for innovation to counteract the technologies used by traffickers, sending a clear message that Europe will respond against them.
