The Ebola epidemic continues to worsen in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with over 900 suspected cases identified, of which 101 have been confirmed, according to statements from WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In a post on social media, he emphasized the intensification of surveillance efforts within the response to the epidemic, without providing updated details on the number of deaths. The epidemic was declared on May 15, caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there are no approved vaccines or treatments. The Ministry of Health of the DRC previously reported 204 deaths in three provinces, out of a total of 867 suspected cases.
Ebola, a deadly viral disease, has led to the deaths of over 15,000 people in Africa in the last five decades, highlighting the severity of this public health crisis.
