An earthquake occurred in Shimane Prefecture, located in the northwest of Japan, according to the announcement from the Japan Meteorological Agency. The epicenter was located on land, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers. Authorities have confirmed that there is no tsunami risk. The most intense tremors were felt in the capital of the prefecture, Matsue, and in nearby cities, including in the neighboring Tottori Prefecture. So far, no casualties or material damage have been reported, and the Nuclear Regulation Authority stated that no anomalies have been identified at the Shimane nuclear power plant or at other plants in the area. Japan, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the most seismically active areas in the world, having recently been affected by two other strong earthquakes in December.
