On Thursday, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale struck the Andean region of Ayacucho in southern Peru, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP). The epicenter of the quake was located 35 kilometers from the town of Cora Cora.
Although the magnitude was reported by the IGP as 7.2, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated the magnitude at 6.7. So far, no casualties or significant material damage have been reported. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation to assess the impact of the earthquake.
