The Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, reacted strongly to the executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who proposes renaming Lake Ontario to "Lake America".

Ford installed a sign on the shore of the lake, with the message "Lake Ontario. Now and always," emphasizing that the name of the lake will not change, regardless of Trump's decisions. This dispute was triggered by recent trade tensions, in which the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on Canadian goods.

Trump shared videos generated by artificial intelligence, in which he presented his vision for the renamed lake. Ford stated that Trump's initiative reflects a reaction to defend Canadian interests and reaffirmed that the lake will remain Lake Ontario, a name with historical and cultural roots.

This dispute joins other international conflicts related to geographical names, such as the proposal to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has generated controversy and litigation.
