The change of the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America was determined by a presidential order issued by Donald Trump, as part of the trade war with Canada. Both Apple and Google reacted quickly, implementing the new name in the United States, while maintaining the old name in Canada and displaying both names for users in other regions.

Unlike Google, which made the change immediately, Apple waited a few days, only acting after Trump exerted direct pressure on the company. In contrast, the MapQuest application refused to comply with the order, thus gaining the sympathy of users and climbing to the top of the rankings in Canada and the United States.
