The Greek island of Chios is facing severe vegetation fires and authorities have ordered the evacuation of 16 villages to protect residents. More than 190 firefighters, backed by helicopters and airplanes, are battling the blaze, but strong winds are complicating efforts. The fires have affected large areas, including mastiha-producing regions, and the Greek government has sent reinforcements.
