An 80-year-old woman died during the evacuation due to a forest fire affecting the southern part of British Columbia, Canada. The incident occurred in the town of Meadow Valley, where the woman was trying to leave her home along with a family member.

The province's governor, David Eby, expressed regret for this death, which occurred in the context of evacuating residents. The fire, which broke out on Friday near Okanagan Lake, has led to the evacuation of over 20,000 people and required aerial intervention for about 50 isolated individuals.

Authorities declared a state of emergency and requested assistance from the federal government. The fire has devastated over 13,000 hectares and continues to burn uncontrollably, being part of an extremely severe fire season in Canada, where over 4 million hectares have already burned in 2023.

Canada is facing difficulties in managing the fires, given the limited resources available.
