The leaders of the Democrats who won control of the Senate and the House of Representatives in the United States midterm elections are announcing extensive investigations into President Donald Trump’s administration over the next two years, and one of the targets would reportedly include former U.S. ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Robert Garcia, the Democratic congressman who is set to become the new chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sent Republicans a brief message on Tuesday evening: “Get lawyers,” suggesting that the administration and the president’s allies will face intensified congressional scrutiny.
The committee can subpoena witnesses, request government documents, and issue subpoenas. Garcia said the subjects under scrutiny will include Elon Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency, the Trump family’s business dealings, alleged abuses by the immigration agency ICE, and the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. He specified that Democrats have already been working on these investigations for several months.
Another target is Kimberly Guilfoyle, from whom Garcia requested information following allegations concerning statements she made in Greece. It is worth recalling that she said the U.S. can overthrow governments, citing Romania as an example.
In the Senate, Ron Wyden, the future chairman of the Finance Committee, summed up the party’s direction in a single word: “Subpoenas.” Democrats will also be able to refer matters to the courts and challenge the administration’s refusal to cooperate.
