On Saturday, Democratic senators condemned the airstrikes on Venezuela ordered by President Donald Trump, emphasizing that there are no reasons to start a war with this Latin American country. Senator Ruben Gallego stated that these actions are illegal and criticized the transformation of the U.S. from "the world's police" into "the world's aggressors." The government of Nicolas Maduro denounced the attacks on civilian and military points in Caracas. Although the White House has not issued an official statement, Trump claimed on his Truth Social network that the attacks were successful and that Maduro and his wife had been captured.
Senator Brian Schatz added that the U.S. has no vital interests in Venezuela that would justify a war and criticized the lack of transparency from the Trump administration. The Pentagon has not yet commented on the attacks, and the U.S. Constitution states that only Congress can declare war, while the administration claims that the actions are part of a war against drug trafficking.
