Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga, along with other ministers, announced on state television in Havana the introduction of a four-day workweek in the administration and state enterprises, as part of austerity measures. These measures include teleworking, restrictions on the sale of fuels, reduction of public transport services, temporary closure of some tourist units, and shorter programs in universities, with optional attendance. The aim of these measures is to save fuel and energy to maintain food and electricity production, as well as to protect essential economic activities.

Cuba is facing a severe crisis, especially since it has not received oil from Venezuela since December last year, due to sanctions imposed by the United States. Additionally, the Cuban regime has lost an important ally, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has been overthrown and arrested. The current crisis is compared to that of the 1990s, when the collapse of the Soviet Union led to a deep recession. Currently, Cuba is experiencing frequent power outages, shortages of food and medicine, and a decline in the number of tourists.
