On Saturday evening, British and French air forces conducted a joint operation in Syria, targeting an underground weapons depot associated with the Islamic State group. The British Ministry of Defence announced that the aircraft carried out patrols to prevent the return of the militant group, which controlled territories in Syria until 2019. Analysis of the information led to the identification of an underground facility in the mountains north of Palmyra, used for storing weapons.
The British aircraft, equipped with Paveway IV guided bombs, attacked the access tunnels to the facility, and preliminary assessments suggest that the target was successfully hit. The United Kingdom ensured that the area was free of civilian housing before the attack, and all aircraft returned safely. The British Secretary of Defence, John Healey, emphasized the UK's commitment to working with allies to combat the resurgence of violent ideologies in the Middle East.
