Marcelo de Oliveira Souza, a researcher at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, announced a revolutionary discovery that could transform interplanetary travel, significantly reducing the time required to reach Mars. According to Live Science, the researcher was inspired by data regarding asteroid trajectories and concluded that a round trip could be accomplished in a few months.

Currently, using existing techniques, a journey to Mars takes between seven and ten months, and waiting for a return window can extend the total duration of the mission to nearly three years. This new method could open up new opportunities for space exploration, facilitating faster and more efficient missions to the red planet. The researcher also proposes to collaborate with space agencies to test and implement this innovative technique.
