Brazilian authorities have officially requested TikTok to explain how it detects and removes misogynistic content, following the emergence of viral videos simulating assaults against women around March 8, International Women's Day. The government has asked for details about moderation systems and recommendation algorithms, as well as information about possible penalties for distributing such materials. The videos, which showed men hitting or stabbing female mannequins, contained texts that justified violence. TikTok has five days to respond. Additionally, a Supreme Court ruling has expanded the responsibility of platforms to proactively moderate criminal content. The police have opened an investigation and identified four involved accounts. The incident comes in the context of alarming statistics, with 1,518 women killed in Brazil in 2025, the highest number of femicides recorded since the legalization of this term.
